The Toronto Raptors chosen to stand out this year. But why could a 48-win outfit, the Raps, go things that weren’t broken?
Kyle Lowry obtained a contract of four years and $48 million, which promised the group’s leader and pace-setter would reunite. When the ink was dry on that deal, the Raps understood they could sit and bank last February from the likes of DeMar DeRozan and Jonas Valanciunas having made his initial All-Star Game.
Stable though the Raptors are, there is still some intrigue on the roster. Virtual unidentified Bruno Caboclo was Toronto’s surprise pick, and nobody is quite sure how great that the 19-year-old Brazilian might become.
Lucas”Bebe” Nogueira, 22, joined the Raps via commerce in June, and he is another potential-packed potential. And though he is not near to being a significant contributor to the floor, Nogueira is tackling the adjustment to his new team in stride, based on Eric Koreen of this National Post:”Regardless, you have the sense that if Nogueira was in the heart of Siberia without a drop of Russian in his repertoire, he would still be smiling, laughing and just generally being loud.”
In sum, the Raptors did a nice job of maintaining a status quo while injecting enough exciting potential to have some upside.
And no, I can not explain why their chances are low as the Knicks’.
