Raheen House to have Melbourne Cup prep run

William Haggas plans to give Raheen House an outing at Australia before a potential shot at the Lexus Melbourne Cup at Flemington in November.

The Newmarket trainer has allowed the Caulfield Cup on October 19 using all the Geelong Cup identified as an choice, as his target for the son of Sea Even the Stars.
The five year-old, among only two horses to get beaten dual Arc winner Enable, finished down the field on his latest start in the month’s Ebor in York – but he’d previously been placed in Listed and Group race company on the Knavesmire.
Haggas said:”Raheen House is currently in quarantine at the moment, and he is due to visit Australia shortly.
“I believe he is going to run at the Caulfield Cup when he receives in. If he does not get in he would probably go for the Geelong Cup.
“I believe he needs to have a race first ahead of the Melbourne Cup. He’ll run really well down there, and I really don’t believe the two-mile excursion in the Melbourne Cup would be no issue.”
Reflecting on Raheen House’s no display from the Ebor, the Classic winning handler believes a few things conspired against him.
Haggas added:”He got a lot back, also (jockey) James (Doyle) said he didn’t really have that ancient speed.
“James stated they went hard, however, and that he only got in the wrong position – but that is how it is.
“The ground may have been been a bit quick for him.”
