Premier League Brighton leading way for fan inclusion

Included in National Inclusion Week, Sky Sports News followed Brighton & Hove Albion Lovers George and Jack Holloway-Bartle for their matchday experience in Falmer at the Amex.

George is a wheelchair user and he and his brother Jack are autistic.
Taking part in game and Seeing Brighton is a portion of George’s life has helped him. “I have trouble walking across the scene. My wheelchair is useful to me and that means a lot. The arena is fantastic and the staff are all very brilliant. Just being at the games helps me, the atmosphere is simply brilliant.”
There are lifts and corridors to permit for wheelchair accessibility. So that he could get a wheelchair of his very own brighton charity, Albion from the Community, held a fundraiser for George back in 2015.
George added,”They have done brilliantly, they have done very excellent. Donating that chair to me was wonderful.”
He is taken by george’s dad Matthew Bartle and younger brother Jack to Brighton’s home matches.
“I takes quite a little bit of time to get the boys ready for a game since they both have additional needs. With my Jack, he receives a good deal of anxiety and needs a calm atmosphere for a time period leading up to leave.
“When we get there we’ve got a disabled parking area in the floor. There’s also a lift for us up into the place where Jack and George sitit’s fantastic.
“The club has got the balance right. Between having the facilities and making people feel included. They’re not assessed and feel a part of the group. For me as a parent that’s critical.”
Staff in the stadium are specially trained to help fans who don’t have demands that are visual. Millie Crowhurst is the disability liaison officer of Brighton & Hove Albion also would like to make every fan feel included.
“Inside the floor we have got a hidden handicap wristband scheme for our fans who want it. That this wristband can be shown by them to any member of steward or security and they will help.
“All staff receive special training because of this. We got an inclusion room. We’re the first in the Premier League to own this. It’s for fans who might struggle to take a seat in the primary stadium to begin with.”
