Pep Guardiola says Manchester City ‘do not have many choices’ in defence

Pep Guardiola states Manchester City”don’t have lots of choices” in defence after he was forced to area midfielder Fernandinho because of makeshift centre-back.
The Brazilian has been set up alongside the only fit of City Nicolas Otamendi, senior central refuge, in Shakhtar Donetsk at Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League win.
John Stones is out for five weeks due to a muscle injury and Aymeric Laporte is currently recovering from knee surgery, but Guardiola states midfielder Fernandinho gets the nature and expertise to solve their injury crisis.
“I didn’t have doubts that he would [look comfortable in the rear four]. That is why he is so vital for everybody,” Guardiola said, after handing Fernandinho the extra duty of captaincy in his first start of the season.
“We do not have many options… he is the only one that I have. Other players can play in that place but Fernandinho is a smart player – an unbelievable guy.
“He’s a lot of expertise and character and what he states the people today accompany him in the locker room so that it’s important.”
Fernandinho, that created 2 interceptions and had a passing precision of 90 percent against Shakhtar, included:”I have been coaching in this place since the start of the season.
“Now was my opportunity, I hope I can improve. It was a quiet night in the back however, the staff have made a very good match… since we played with as a group.”
