Manager Mauricio Pochettino says he believed about Tottenham’s’painful’ Champions League defeat’a lot’ as they prepare for their opening game of the year’s contest.
Spurs lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
They start their European campaign against Greek side Olympiakos in Piraeus on Wednesday (17:55 BST).
“It was a lengthy period after the closing in Madrid,” explained Pochettino.
“Being truthful I had been thinking a good deal during the summertime. Since you can’t put the atmosphere out to complete losing the final is so painful and you need to wait to start to repair the harm.
“It is exciting to begin a new campaign and now here in Greece. It is likely to be an incredible atmosphere too.”
Pochettino and Tottenham’s probability of repeating last season’s Champions League run, which included a dramatic semi-final second leg victory away at Ajax have played .
He also states the club have to learn lessons from the bad start from the group stage last time, where they shot only 1 point from their opening three games.
“No-one today is thinking or giving us opportunity to become a competitor to be in the final in Istanbul this year,” added the Argentine, who’ll take charge of the 50th European match for Tottenham at Greece.
“However, that is normal. This makes it again exciting, our run in the Champions League.
“We know we need to start with winning. However, you can speak but you need to reveal your quality, tomorrow. We need to show we’ve learned from the past.”
Defenders Danny Rose and Serge Aurier have been rested and did not travel with the squad, with Pochettino saying he’ll make changes to the side which beat Crystal Palace 4-0 past weekend.
Ryan Sessegnon also failed to travel after reporting aggravation with a former hamstring strain while fellow summer signing Giovani Lo Celso is out until at least the end of October with a hip injury.
Juan Foyth comes in training but is not anticipated to return to action for the following fourteen days.
