National Hockey League All-Star Game
The National Hockey League All-Star Game (French: Match des ??toiles de la Ligue Nationale de Hockey) is an exhibition hockey baseball game that is traditionally held during the normal season of the National Hockey League (NHL), with lots of the League’s celebrity players playing against each other. Each group plays four players. The Game’s earnings benefit the pension fund of the gamers.
Even the NHL All-Star Sport, held in late January or early February, marks the symbolic halfway point from the regular season, though not the mathematical halfway point that, for most seasons, is generally a couple of weeks before. Since 2007, it is held in late January.From 1947 to 1968, the All-Star Game primarily watched the preceding season’s Stanley Cup champions take on a group of All-Stars from another clubs. There were two exceptions in this time: The 1951 and 1952 games instead featured two teams of All-Star players, one consisting of players on American-based teams and the other with players comprising gamers around Canadian-based teams.
Starting in 1969, the format was geographical with all the Wales/Eastern Conference All-Stars enjoying with the Campbell/Western Conference All-Stars, in which the”first group”, or starting line, such as the starting goaltender, voted by fans, while the rest of the teams’ rosters are picked by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department in consultation with the teams’ general managers. Since 1996, the head coaches to both All-Star teams have been the coaches of both teams that are leading their respective conventions in point percentage (i.e. fraction of points obtained from total possible points). Ahead policy observed both head coaches who appeared in the previous year’s Stanley Cup Finals training the All-Star teams. [3]
The 1998 All-Star Game has been held in the exact same year since the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, providing the NHL to show its players from all over the world. To this extent, the NHL had the All-Star teams include a group of North Americans playing with a group of celebrities from the rest of the planet. [4] The North America vs. World All-Star format continued through the 2002 Gamethe Identical year since the 2002 Winter Olympics, before reverting to the Eastern vs. Western Conference structure in 2003.
Throughout the 2010–11 year, the NHL announced a change to the way the teams were chosen, modeled following drafts in fantasy sports. The conference vs. conference (i.e. East vs. West) approach was replaced by a player draft conducted by the All-Star players to ascertain that the rosters for every team. The captains for each team today pick players from a joint pool of both fan balloting and the NHL Hockey Operations Department. The change in format was a joint effort by the League and the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA). [5] This format lasted throughout the 2015 game.
The All-Star Game is preceded by the NHL All-Star Skills Competition, a contest showing the various talents of the all-stars. Beginning in 2007, the All-Star weekend also featured the NHL YoungStars Game, an exhibition match exclusively featuring rookies,[6] playing under slightly modified rules. In 2011 this game was removed in favor of having the rookies compete at the skills competition.
