Mesut Ozil staying at Arsenal until 2021 and hits out at illness criticism
Mesut Ozil says he will stay at Arsenal.
Ozil has just featured two of Arsenals 11 games this season under head coach Unai Emery, also admitsseeing from home has left himfeel helpless.
However, the attacking midfielder has advised The Athletic hes going nowhere, stating:Ive got a contract until the summer of 2021 and I will be staying until then.
Once I signed the new dealI thought about it very attentively and said it was among the most crucial decisions of my career. I didnt want to stay for one or two years, I needed to commit my future to Arsenal and also the club needed me to do exactly the same.
You are able to go through tough times, like this, but that is no reason to run away and I am not going to. I am here until 2021.
Ozil has really come under-fire one of fans for his absence on matchdays but has rejected suggestions he utilizes his health as an excuse.
I get frustrated when I miss a game through sickness and people question if its genuine. Yes, this happened a few days – usually in winter – but what am I supposed to do?
When you knew me personally, youd know it takes a lot for me to skip a match and I have never used illness as a justification. Actually the reverse. I had injuries or played with many games when I was ill.
Many players do not play hurt or ill – it affects the game, you cant give everything but I was always accessible unless it was impossible.
