Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Vs. Hugo Ruiz Preview, Odds, Purses; Eleider Alvarez: Boxing Biz

Although Gervonta”Tank” Davis is thought to have the ability of a top-10 pound for pound fighter, he has had an inactive past 18 months. On Saturday on Showtime against Hugo Diaz, a late replacement for first opponent Abner Mares, Davis gets the chance to showcase the reason.

Diaz will have something to say about that. He fought about the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner PPV bout, and he’s about five inches taller than Davis. Diaz (39-4, 33 KOs) will attempt to win another world title–he held a belt at junior featherweight–while Davis (20-0, 19 KOs) attempts to defend his junior lightweight title for the first time at his most recent reign.

There are loads of reasons to see Davis vs. Ruiz. Listed below are just three of them.

1) Will Mares to Ruiz be a problem? : Following Mares pulled out with an accident 10 days Ruiz was called in to fight Davis’ title. It’s who and a style of fighter for Davis — who, at 5-foot-5, might need to compete with a fighter who is 5-10 also has punching power than Mares. Davis’ camp has adhered to the same routine and he said he is convinced he’s ready for the competitor switch. “This Circle I actually sparred distinct kind of men,” Davis said. “I sparred someone that has come after me. He was considerably taller with a more reach, so that I thank him for the work because it was wanted by me. To whatever was in front of us , 12, we’ll adapt. I am just eager to see what he attracts Feb. 9.”

2) How can Ruiz’s recent fight affect him? : Three weeks before, Ruiz dominated Alberto Guevara, his own replacement opponent, winning a huge unanimous decision. It is difficult to say whether that recent bout will help him (he is in shape and will not be rusty) or hurt him (he is exhausted and tired after going 10 rounds). Naturally, Ruiz said it will be the former. Interestingly , Ruiz said he returned to training three days following his victory. “I typically take max five days away a week following a struggle but using this struggle with Guevara there was actually not so far physical abuse from my part,” he explained. “I did not get that many hard hits. So I started training straight away.” Turns out there was a fortuitous choice.
