WBSS final: Lawrence Okolie ready to step up to European level

Lawrence Okolie has disclosed he jumped at the chance to challenge Yves Ngabu for its cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take about the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard at The O2 on October 26 on Ngabu, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The Hackney fighter, who picked up the British and Commonwealth titles since joining the pro ranks in 2017 and has won 13 of his fights, did not hesitate when given the chance to step up in class against the undefeated Belgian.
“I just think that if you’re young and able [to fight] then you ought to do,” said Okolie through Monday’s press conference.
“This will be the third champion I have boxed. I have defeated the Commonwealth champion, I have beaten the winner and I am excited about beating the champion.
“He has got a great team. I’ve heard a great deal of interviews I like the way he speaks, very confidently.
“I am just looking forward to putting myself through it in training camp and then going to get the job done.
“It’s going to be very, very good, very exciting. He’s got a sort of style that is contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but that he knows how to ship. He has great power punching and several other things like this, so there’s definitely going to be a good deal of stuff I’m likely to have to deal with on the night, but that I will deal with each one these comfortably.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will be fighting for the very first time outside his native Belgium but the 30-year-old is confident of defending his title for the third time.
“He [Okolie] is a good fighter. He is tall, he’s powerful and that which until today he did great, but I believe I could beat him and I think I am more powerful than him and we’ll find on October 26,” explained Ngabu.
