WBSS final: Lawrence Okolie ready to step up to European level

Lawrence Okolie has revealed he jumped at the opportunity to challenge Yves Ngabu to the European cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take about the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard in The O2 on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
As joining the ranks in 2017 the Hackney fighter, who has won all 13 of his fights and picked up both the British and Commonwealth titles, did not hesitate when given the opportunity to measure up in class against the undefeated Belgian.
“I just think that when you’re young and able [to combat ] then you ought to do,” explained Okolie during Monday’s press conference.
“This is going to be the next winner I’ve boxed. I’ve beaten the Commonwealth winner, I’ve beaten the winner and I’m looking forward to beating the European champion.
“He has got a excellent team. I’ve heard a great deal of interviews with him, I like the way he speaks.
“I’m just looking forward to putting myself in training camp and then going to do the job.
“It is definitely going to be very, very fine, very exciting. He has got a kind of style that is practically contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but he also knows how to box. He has good power punching and several other things like this, so there’s going to be a whole lot of things I’m going to need to manage on the night, however I can cope with each one these comfortably.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will probably soon be battling for the very first time outside his native Belgium but the 30-year-old is convinced of defending his title for the third time.
“He [Okolie] is a fantastic fighter. He’s tall, he’s powerful and that which until now he did perfect, but I believe I could beat him and that I believe I’m stronger than him and we will watch on October 26,” explained Ngabu.
