Deus Ex Invisible War – a game that almost buried a franchise

How easy it is to get all polymers and blind a terrible sequel? We disassemble the second part of the Deus Ex and try to determine what went wrong.
Video version of the review:

So, today we will talk about Deus Ex Invisible War.
If someone needs information about this game, because most likely you fucking do not know what kind of Invisible War (I would also prefer to not know, believe me), then this is a direct continuation of the cult Deus Ex EX 2000. I usually call this Deus Ex "Old Deus Exc.".
And what, there were old Deus exes? Were. Now DEUS EX is associated with the creation of Aidos Montreal, and with the mask of the series Adam Jensen, but it all started with the visionary of the Warren Spectrum industry, which was related to both parts of the old dees exes.

The first part came out truly cool and pleasant. I personally passed it three times and did not regret it.
A good variable game where you can be both a tricky stallier and a cool ramba, and you can get to the same place in different ways. And it is the approach to the missions that makes this game a reigree and interesting. There is no single option where to go, what to do, how to lead yourself. You are given the ultimate goal, and what paths and tools you use to complete – only your business.
And this is cool, this incredible non -linearity and makes Deus ex fascinating entertainment. Not a plot, not characters, not a graphon, but the gameplay itself.

The success of the first part predetermined the release of the sequel. The second part was inevitable, and the second part came out, in 2003, three years after the first part. And it was … terrible.

Let’s honestly: I launched the second part, not suspecting that it was waiting for me. I looked at a couple of reviews, read textual roar, and everywhere the game was evaluated as the weakest part of Deus ex. But no one spoke and wrote anywhere that the game is a frank shit. Namely, shit, it is.
So I launched a game with a relatively light heart, thinking that the game, in principle, is not bad, albeit weak by the standards of the whole franchise.
I was waiting for me 21 hours of pain.

We will start with a thin one, because this is the first thing that catches your eye and get their fuck.
What is thin? This is all that is at the edges of the screen, indicators of cartridges, lives, armor, energy and augmentation in the case of Deus Ex. It is no coincidence that it is located at the edges in the corners. Because the game itself, action, action, dialogs should take place on the screen, and if you derive you with the figure of cartridges straight to the middle of the screen, it will be, to put it mildly, it will be inconvenient to look at what is happening in the game.
What does the invisibel do? He hangs you thin in the middle of the screen. This is … a worthy wheel. Wheel thin, and even in the middle of the screen. When I saw this for the first time, I climbed into the settings, find out how to remove it or do at least transparent. Spoiler: No way. Tolerate, get used to it.

And I’m used to it. But this does not make such a thin solution. Man – a creature adaptable, you can get used to anything, to acute food, to a new woman, to augmentations for six months ..

Well, okay, we got used to thin, let’s go to deal with weapons and inventory. Here the game stumbles so powerfully that you begin to doubt that living people did it, not helios, for example. Inventory is still not expanded as in the first part, but now it has become simplified. Roughly speaking: in all parts of Deus, the inventory is realistic. Well, how realistic, it is still incomprehensible in which place the main character draggs all this good (in the ass), but here, realism is understood as the number of cells that the subject occupies. Here the grenade launcher occupies Deher of the cells, because it is large, and the cell battery or chocolate occupies one cell because they are small. Well, you understand the thought.

In Invisible War, everything takes one cell. I have only two options for what is happening here. The first option: in the difficult world of the future or chocolate has become the size of a grenade launcher, or a grenade launcher has become compact as a chocolate. And the second option: laziness developers. Realism zero, working with the inventory zero, in the ass, such an inventory is actually.

But the inventory is nothing compared to what happened to the weapon. Hold on to the chairs just because now the cartridges are universal. We charge the same cartridges with a gun, shotgun, machine gun, grenade launcher, your mother and my sense of humor.
See what the meaning of different cartridges in different weapons. This is a chance. He is given to every player. You have ended ammunition in a revolver? You are frantically watching in what other weapons the cartridges remained, you take out this weapon, change tactics and shoot from this weapon. And it’s cool. This is on the one hand – your chance to win the battle, on the other hand – a risk game, you may not have enough time and space to change tactics, and you will spend as a fool the cartridges from close -knit weapons on distant targets. Or maybe there are no cartridges at all! And in this case, of course, sushi are already, but not in the case of Deus. In Deus you can cope without weapons, the variability.
But Invisible War simply threw all your chances into the trash. Shot the entire machine? Suck a bolt, because you just shot all the weapons that you have. You cannot get a grenade launcher and put in the hope that enough. You can’t finish off the enemy with any other firearm. You can’t at all nichrome. You can only swear and send a fuck for developing with such degeneratic decisions. I am silent about the fact that you can take the same weapon … Well, that is, you can score all the cells of the inventory with the same pistol.

Somewhere at this point I thought that the game was not completed. Or released a previous time. Here, in general, this is the way that “wanted to make an innovation, but did not test anything if it will work”. And therefore, innovations such as unrealistic inventory, universal cartridges, thin in the middle of the screen look at least wider, and as a maximum – as an absurd bug, as in the case of choosing the same weapons.

Okay, drove away because it catches my https://lowdeposit-casinos.co.uk/minimum-deposit-bingo-sites/ eye right away.
Let’s move on to that shit that pops up later.

Multitules
This is a small pickup, but understand me correctly – it was in my eyes for every use.
What is a multi -sized? Roughly speaking, this is a master of the remote control. I went to the electronic device, pressed the button, and the device does all the work for you. What is important: in Deus ex 2000 there were different types of master keys: electronic and ordinary. Electronic for hacking electronic locks, conventional for hacking ordinary locks on the doors and boxes.

We do not affect the multitules in Human Revolution, they were not in the form of a remote control, but in the form of an electronic Velcro grenade, which is a strange solution, but it is Fucking Works.

What did the fucking Invisible War do? He forced me to crinze every time I took out a multi -line. Firstly, ordinary Lokpiki went to the trash. Now we break all the locks: ordinary and electronic type of multi -tunnel. And let’s honestly: he looks like a fucking magic wand. Seriously, take a look at this.

What is this? Why, how, for what … it is definitely a cyberpunk or we are already going into the field of magic?
And most importantly, why this shitty ray of magic breaks ordinary locks on boxes and cabinets. I have no excuse for this.

Regarding the augmentations: I have no complaints about the augmentations, in principle, everything is as usual. But I have a complaint to one augmentation. This is illegal augmentation … Yes, there are illegal. You can activate an implant marked with a red skull. What’s happening? A red cloud bursts out of the hero, which rummages through the location and sucks vital energy from the corpses and transfers it to the main character, turning it into Hepe. At first I decided that it was OK and even cool, but then my brain turned on, and I again realized that it was not Cyberpank, but some kind of fucking magic. Red cloud? From the hero? Sucks out of, sorry, corpses, sorry, vital energy? From corpses? Yes? I again had a cring on this moment.

We are now pretty for the little things, I understand that this is strange, to talk about trifles, not global problems. But from such trifles the game is added up, your sensation is folded, it is cool or stupid.
So let’s talk about another little thing that enraged me, and so we’ll talk about global problems.

Aliens. I know that they were in the first part and … they were there dumbness, not fitting into Deus ex. But in the second part they were brought to complete absurdity. In the first part, they at least did not say!

Here they say, and are generally considered a separate race, that is, the game already in all seriousness states that there are other planets with a reasonable life, and this reasonable life looks exactly as people imagine it: gray big -eyed alieners. If someone in the Ion Storm leadership considered that it was like a satire such, such as Homor, then this dude went to the ass … In fact, how can it be.

Uh, what’s with the skin of the Illuminati? No, I really want to know what they are dark gray. This is not a makeup, not a mask, this is exactly what their skin. They are now also a little aliens? However, with all this of their Majestic-12, probably, it is not surprising.

Okay, let’s about global.
Graphone? I always look at what year the game came out and, starting from this, I decide whether the grafon is good or bad. Here in the systems, shock graphon looks like it should, the 94th year. In the first Deus exse, the graphon said goodbye, because this is the 2000th year.
But Invisible War and … this is the 2003th year, yes? Someone will say: so what, it was a long time. Yes? Half Life 2 came out in 2004, a year later.
Oh well, what are you, well, the year has passed, in a year technology jumped out. But only in 2003 games with a decent count came out.
And then what? What about the characters with the eyes, I can’t look at it, I, damn it, rejoice when I see a character with glasses, because it means that I will not see his eyes! They were as if cut out of paper and glued to the face!

Well, the rest of the graphon … the characters move like a tree, they turn around the whole corps when they speak with someone. They do not turn the head, namely that the entire body. Unrealistic movements, unrealistic inventory ..

Characters. They are not.
Honestly, Deus ex often travels on a character. The characters in the entire franchise are memorable, bright, you can say at least a few words about their characters, accents, attitude towards each other.
Humor, in the end, yes, this franchise is inherent in sarcasm, irony and humor. Even if the humor is quite harsh.
In the invisibel thief … the characters are just empty. Nothing is worth it, you are not interested in watching them, it is uninteresting to remember their names, their history, their faces. The main character is a log. The main antagonist … yes he is not here.
In the video review, I did not ride properly along the main character Alex Denton. Let’s at least designate the text.
What is a cool main character in Deus Ex? These are glasses, this is a raincoat, it is a brutal low voice. Does Alex have all this? No. Who generally decided that this chmoshnik in the form of the protagonist is a good solution?

And the main character is not a drunk. It sounds like a dubious argument, but the opportunity to get drunk in the snot at any time of the game – the Fuck Deus Exca. What was abandoned is a bad sign.

Some of the Persians migrated from the first part, and the fact that the game stuck even their characters says quite a lot. Jace Denton is now just a pathetic woodpecker who is imagining himself to be God and the Savior, his brother Paul might not be in the game with the same success, he is so empty, Nikolett Dukeler … well, she is present ..
In general, the character is shy from and to. You will still be on the death of each of these people, I guarantee it.

From the characters we go to the plot. I will be honest with you: I don’t like plots in video games. It is extremely rare that the plot clings me … well, I don’t read notes in games, I often do not listen to dialogs. But this does not mean that I don’t understand the plot
I understand, I just don’t delve into. What about this game? Nuuuu … I didn’t understand anything. Damn, tell me what happened in this game. I, in principle, realized that there are several groups fighting for power, and each of them is shit in its own way.
Perhaps I was just dead inside by the moment when I wanted to understand what was happening here in the plot … I blame the death of my inner world of multitulas, aliens and Warren Spectrum.

Warren Spectrum … Yes, I probably 3 times for my passage climbed into Wikipedia, but you know why? I could not believe that this game was made by the maestro himself, the one who was responsible for the masterpiece of the first part.
Wikipedia says that yes, he did the second part.
But I do not believe in an iot, I can’t believe that a spectrum is involved in this shit. The game seemed to make some unscrupulous fans of the first part, which, to put it mildly, do not understand the games in general and the Deus exse in particular. I will believe that either the spectrum simply oversaw the project, but did not engage in it himself, or that he made this game in a fit of delirium from poisoning with oatmeal liver.

Is there something good in this game? Well … Enji resonance.
This is the character of this game, singer, we hear her tracks in clubs and bars in Invisible War. And yes, this is a real singer, vocalist of the Kidneythieves group. And after passing the game, I threw myself her songs into the player, and I listened to the group, very good group, you can listen to too
By the way, we meet Angie not only in holograms in the bar, but also face to face closer to the end of the game.
And you know, she is the living character of this game. Seriously, she has a character.
When the living character of your game is a secondary Persian, which is rather a cameo – your game has serious trabels.

And since Angie was affected, then let’s about the soundtrack.
I love the soundtrack from the first part, even more so – I consider it my favorite sound in games in general.
Each mission is accompanied by well written soundtrack, and the topics are heterogeneous in sound. When you are in a relatively safe situation – the soundtrack is calm and measured, but as soon as the enemies notice you, the topic is replaced, it becomes more dynamic and alarming
I remember that after passing I added a bunch of topics from the first Deus exse to my player, and many times listened to the full soundtrack on the soundclass
Again: I recommend listening to the soundtrack completely on the same soundclass.

And what about the second part … there is no soundtrack. Mission you are going through in silence.
The only soundtrack sounds in the main menu, and this is a rewritten topic from the first part, such as remix. Well, the songs of Enji Resonance in the bars. All.
It seems to me that the composers simply did not write the sound to this. They were already shown a finished game, and such “write us a little sound,” and they “you fucking, we will not write to this shit, here you have a remix of the title theme from the first part and fall off from us”.

Someone will ask: zombies, why did you find fault? Dumb game, very niche, very mediocre and unfinished, few people remember it, few played it, it was deservedly forgotten.
Yes, because this DEUS Ex in the title has this game! If it were called “Invisible War,” I wouldn’t say the words! But she is part of the franchise, which I really love!

And what in the end? You know, the game itself summed up. In the very last location, we find ourselves in the headquarters of Yunatko. Yes, the same headquarters from the first part, only a lot of time passed and the headquarters turned into ruins. We go to the headquarters and see the bare walls where the life of the operatives was boiling before. We learn familiar places and offices, only now there is devastation, desolation and homeless people, basking at the barrels. The once fucked headquarters turned into a brown emptiness shit. And this is what Invisible War did with the Deus Ex franchise: turned it into ruins and nothing.

Come on, guys, what are you shaken or something? I pump pathos and drama, do not pay attention. The Deus Ex Franchise really almost drowned in shit, one after 8 years we received the most awesome puzzle of the series, which has ever seen the light. Rebut, who brought us not only games, but also the expansion of the universe in the form of books, stories and comics. Rebut, who gave me a bunch of inspiration and a heap of pleasant emotions. But about this some other time.
